“My times are in Your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me” – Psalm 31:15
My husband and I were attending an internship at the International House of Prayer in Kansas
City in the Spring of 2013 when I heard Justin Rizzo and his team sing, “My times are in Your
hands”; The words to the song pierced my heart and I received revelation that the Lord is fully
in control of my very days, hours, and minutes. I have to admit I did not realize these words
were literally from Scripture until I began to study them.
In my lifetime, I have been through various personal trials. The pain and sorrow and confusion
have been nearly unbearable at times. There was one season in particular of total devastation
when I lost much of what was important to me. I learned during that experience that “when
God is all you have, He is really all you need”. I have learned that God has my time in His
capable hands and further, that He will deliver me from the hands of my enemies.
As I prayed and asked God for direction when I first learned of the coronavirus, I heard the
Lord say again, “My times are in Your hands”; These are words of great comfort to me. I cannot
really answer the questions being asked about what is going on, but I call tell people beyond
the shadow of a doubt that God is in control. He is not at all surprised by what is happening. He
has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. That is all I really need to know. He has
proven Himself faithful time and again in my own life and I know He will be faithful in the midst
of this crisis.
None of us knows how things will look when this pandemic has subsided. Maybe things will
return to some semblance of normalcy or maybe things won’t look anything like they did just a
short time ago. No matter what, God is in control! He knows the numbers of hairs on our heads
(Matthew 10:30) and He has us engraved on the palms of His hand (Isaiah 49:16.)
There will be times in life when we do not know what is going on, when we feel that everything
is out of control and our security is in question. I can tell you that He has walked through the
fire with me; He was in the boat in the middle of the storm; He provided rain in the midst of a
drought; He saved me from the den of the lions. And even so much more! That is how I know
that He will be with us through the COVID-19 pandemic. Our times are in His hands and He will
deliver us from the hands of our enemies! He will receive the glory due His Name!
